Waltham Youth Soccer Overview
The information listed here is an overview of the different programs run by
Waltham Youth Soccer. There are a variety of programs available. There is a Travel Program,
In-Town Program, and a U6 Co-ed Program for Kindergarten and 1st Grade children.
The Travel Program is based on age and skill level. Teams are chosen by coaches after player
try outs are held. (Usually in June after the Spring Season)
All travel players practice twice a week and play games on Saturday in Waltham and cities
through out the Middlesex League.
The In-Town Program is based on age for determining teams. The WYS In-Town Coordinator forms
these teams by virtue of past coaches evaluations and input from the WYS Board Of Directors.
All In-Town teams practice once a week and play games on Saturday and Sunday in Waltham only.
The U6 Co-ed Program is for our very young players getting their first experience with soccer. U6
teams meet on Sunday at Veterans Fields, play small sided games and learn the very basics of soccer.
Waltham Youth Soccer is a volunteer organization that is run by parents and coahces who give their
time willingly for the bennifit of our youth. Once a year in June, an election is held for the various
positions through out WYS. Parents are encouraged to get involved and bring new ideas to the table that
will help our league grow.

LOCATIONS
WYS utilizes fields around the city for games and practices. The locations of the fields may vary from
season to season depending on field conditions and availability. These fields are in parks that
are usually shared with other youth organizations. WYS utilizes three different types of fields.
Large fields for 11 v 11 games and practices.
Medium size fields for 8 v 8 games and practices.
Small fields for 6 v 6 games and practices.
These fields are as follows:
- Veterans Fields Complex - These fields are located on Forest Street and are where the majority of Waltham Youth Soccer games are played. The fields are artificial turf so the ball moves a little faster and rain does not cause any problems. There are large, medium, and small fields in this complex. Waltham Youth Soccer maintains a bulletin board at these fields.
- Lowell Field - This is a large grass field and is located on Willow Street. It is shared with girls softball in the spring.
- Falzone Field - This is a small sized grass field located on Trapelo Road across from Our Lady s Church. There is a field shack on location used for equipment storage and an upstairs room where the WYS Board Of Directors meet monthly.
- Graverson Park - This is a small sized grass field also located on Trapelo Rd. This field is shared with baseball in the spring.
U16 / U18 TRAVEL TEAMS
For the past few years, Waltham Youth Soccer has fielded Girls and Boys U16 and U18 teams that play in the Spring only. These teams practice twice a week and play at a "Host Venue" on Sunday with 4 or 6 other U16 or U18 travel teams through out the Middlesex League. These are very competitive teams made up of players from the Fall High School soccer teams. Younger players are urged to go watch these teams play and learn from what they are seeing as "The Game" is the best teacher.
REGISTRATION
Registration takes place twice a year. Registration for U8 through U14 typically takes place in the preceding May for the Fall season and October for the Spring season. (October only for the U16 and U18 teams) This is done because of early deadlines for the travel teams and state registration. Registration for the U6 Co-ed program takes place approximately 1 month before the season starts. Notice of registration is posted on the WYS web page and given out by existing coaches, flyers passed out in the schools, and notices in local newspapers like the Daily News tribune.
More information on registration can be found here.
TRY-OUTS
Try-outs are held in the spring for the following Fall and Spring seasons. Players must try-out if they want to travel. There is no guarantee that all players who try out will travel, but you must try out to have a chance. Players try-out within the age group they will be playing in next year. If you cannot attend that session, you must attend one of the other sessions and identify yourself as being from "out of your age group".
